“Purposeful Posts”: ADM launches new social media pack for women and groups
The deaconesses who inspired Rev. Mervyn and Martha Archdall to start the Deaconess House were courageous and, in many cases, pioneering as they served and cared for others with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Since 1891, the women of what’s now called Anglican Deaconess Ministries have sought countless opportunities to share a simple word of encouragement or a specific Bible verse with those around them, to help others endure the challenges of daily life or to remember God’s love and care for them. They were mentors to others, servants in God’s Kingdom. In fact, as Rev. Jackie Stoneman said, such women, “lived out the understanding that God’s word was not just for our heads. It was to permeate one’s heart and find expression in our hands for ministries in difficult places and with broken people.”
In the same spirit of affirmation, ADM has created a set of 21 inspirational posts for women to use on their Facebook or Instagram accounts or for their church women’s groups or ministries. These “purposeful posts” include quotes from women throughout ADM’s work, past and present, as well as specific biblical truths to continue growing.
We hope that you might share these posts intentionally and purposefully with a heart to help others. By viewing and downloading these posts you may even find support and encouragement for your own life.
You can download all of these posts at the bottom of the page using the “Download Bundle” button. After they are downloaded, we encourage you to post them on your social media to provide yourself or someone else with encouragement for their own life and walk with the Lord. You may also want to print them out for personal reflection or include them in a note of encouragement to others.
As Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 5:11: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
(Special thanks to Haley Westerhoff, ADM’s 2020 university intern, for her help with designing these posts.)
Bibles and barbecues: how Living Water is reaching Redfern
Living Water, a church plant under the Evangelism and New Churches arm of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, regularly holds services and gatherings in Redfern Park, rather than inside their building. By doing this, they are better able to engage with the community of Redfern, and also support their largely Indigenous congregation to embrace their connection to country.
Recently, Living Water Church, through one of their team members Bridget Allen, were recipients of a Women in Ministry Support Scheme grant from ADM. Part of this grant has been used to purchase a portable barbeque which the church uses to cook during their outside gatherings. This can draw a crowd as people approach for a tasty meal, and then meet the church members and hear the gospel proclaimed.
