Join us on the first Thursday of the month for Engage Evening Sessions – a fun, low-key opportunity for Christian women to come together and cheer each other on.
At Engage Evening Sessions you’ll hear three speakers from across a variety of spheres of work, culture and ministry. They’ll share stories about their current projects, new ideas or future plans. It's works-in-progress over a dinner party!
Engage Evening Sessions are a space to share knowledge and skills. And, as you hear stories from other women, a space to be inspired and dream big! This is a community where it’s perfectly OK to fail… and to try again, as you seek to discern the ways in which God is calling you to engage and impact the world for Him.
Meet peers, mentors and friends to journey with. Enjoy food and good fun on a Thursday night. Our evening sessions are open to all interested women from any field, age or background – and we especially welcome newcomers. Come join us!
Tickets are $30 and include a two-course meal by our friends at the wonderful social enterprise, Dinner on the Table.
ENGAGE | Evening Session - March (Visual Arts)
Our three speakers on Thursday 7 March are all visual artists! We excited to have 2017 ADM Creative Fellow, Jo Chew, back with us, as well as Esther Neate from National Art School (NAS), and Jen Logan, Director of Fer and winner of ADM's 2018 Annual Funding Event. You can read a bit more about each of these women below. Come join us on the night to hear more about what they're working on and thinking about at the moment!
Jo Chew – Jo Chew lives and works in Hobart, her paintings explore ideas of vulnerability, loss, hopefulness and longing. Aware of the absent origin inherent in collage (Krauss), the process of composing many of her paintings through collage harnesses ideas of exile or the nomadic, but also of restoration and mending through bringing together these ‘exiled’ fragments into the new home of the painted space. Chew’s work has been exhibited in Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne and Sydney; she was the recipient of a 12-month fellowship through ADM in Sydney in 2017; and was a finalist in the Bruny18 and the Henry Jones Art Prize. Receiving first class Honours in 2018, Jo has recently begun a PhD at the School of Creative Arts and Media in Hobart. ‘The Wanderer, the Fool, and The Refuge’ opens on February 6 at Despard Gallery in Hobart and runs until March 3. Previous solo exhibitions at Despard Gallery include ‘It’s Gonna be (Alright) in 2012, and ‘Cain’ in 2014.
Esther Neate – Esther Neate is a Sydney based process artist who works across the disciplines of print, sculpture and drawing. Through her material driven practice she explores patterns of transformation and representations of the passage of time. Esther was a finalist in the Paddington Art Prize, 2018, Chippendale New World Art Prize, 2014, and NEO: Print Prize, UK, 2014. She has exhibited in a number of prominent galleries including Dominique Mersch Gallery and Annandale Galleries. Esther is sessional lecturer in printmaking at the National Art School, Darlinghurst.
Jen Logan – Jen Logan is a theology writer, speaker and conceptual artist. Jen studied Christianity and the Arts at King's College London and the London School of Theology. She now leads Fer: a project communicating Christianity both through art and as art. She grew up in Sydney but together with her husband - David, daughter -Aoife (4) and son - Tate (1) now lives semi-communally in London with their church.
